After nearly 10 yrs in America, we recently moved into our first home in Fontana, California (yes we moved in the midst of a pandemic, but I'll save that story for another day).

One of the things that came with this home was what they called a 'planning center'. It's basically a small partitioned nook that's equally visible from the living room, dining room and kitchen. It is intended to be used either as a work station for adults, or for kids to do their homework under the watchful eye of parents, or even as a small supervised play area. I decided to use the nook as a creative space to study the Bible, read books & do my writing. Here are some easy ways to spruce up a small space..

I decided to go with a boho/earthy toned look for this space, to make it a spot of interest and kept the colors neutral so it blends in with the rest of the house. I added some customized cabinets and drawers to keep all our extra stationary, laptops and so on that I don't want lying around on the table top. I tried as much as I could to use things I had brought over from our previous house, like these floating shelves and woven baskets which hold the books I am currently reading. I also added some artificial lavender which is a striking replica of the real ones I have blooming in my backyard and some greens to bring in a bit of color and calm. As a little creative project, I put up a macrame wall hanging and decided to spruce it up with beads so that it would blend in perfectly with everything else. The beauty of the macrame hanging is that it can take on new shapes and forms with every which way you decide to braid it or add trinkets to it. Add to this mix, a few framed photographs and memorabilia for that sense of comfort and happiness. And finally, my favorite pieces in this whole space are the two beautiful wishbone chairs which just somehow ties everything together.

I hope to keep adding interesting knickknacks to this space, but for now I am enjoying the feel of this little nook as I write this piece and take pauses to sip some tea, lean back and look towards the mountains...
